Welcome to the wiki site for Early Medieval Worlds, a course at Carleton College (Winter 2019), taught by Bill North and Austin Mason. The course offers an introduction to formative political, social, religious, and cultural developments in Europe between c.300 and c.1050.

This website houses a collective digital assignment, in which students will collaboratively author wiki pages on four distinct urban centers in the early medieval period.

Each group of 2-3 students will explore one of 4 major dimensions of the city and its hinterland during our time period:

  • political and economic life
  • religious life
  • art and culture
  • urban form and landscape
